Frequently Asked Questions
What is the RamaChess Grandmaster Archive?
A searchable collection of 136,808 chess games from 51 of the strongest grandmasters in history — every world champion plus the world's top modern players. Browse by player, opening, sacrifice, event, or year.
How does the head-to-head search work?
Type either player's name (full name, last name, or even a fragment like "naka") into the Player 1 and Player 2 boxes. The dropdown shows matching players. Click Search to find every game where the two faced off, regardless of color. Player 2 is optional — searching with just Player 1 returns all of their games.
Where do the games come from?
Games are sourced from PGN Mentor's curated grandmaster collections, deduplicated across players (so a Carlsen-Nakamura game appears once, not twice). All data is freely available for chess study.
Can I play through the games?
Yes — every game has an interactive board viewer with full Stockfish analysis, a Practice button that loads the position into our practice engine, and an Analyse button for deep evaluation.
Why is Magnus Carlsen on a different page?
Magnus has his own dedicated collection at /grandmasters/magnus/ with 7,484+ games featured separately. Clicking his card here takes you there.
