数字从何而来

Players: 1900–1949: Chessmetrics estimates (Jeff Sonas, January lists). 1950–1970: Chessmetrics month by month. 1971–2026: every FIDE rating list (one or two a year at first, every month since August 2012; inactive players left out, as FIDE does). The last point is the October 2026 FIDE list. The two scales are not the same, so every line breaks between 1970 and 1971. A line stops when a player leaves the top 10.

Engines: strength on three scales. 1967–1997: USCF ratings or results of machines in human events, one point a year. 1998–2007: every dated SSDF list (commercial programs). 2008–2026: CCRL 40/15 month by month - each engine's best version released by that month (its release date), as rated on today's CCRL list. A line breaks where the scale changes, so compare heights only within one scale. A CCRL version counts only with a margin of ±16 Elo or better (about 700+ games). Leela Chess Zero is left out (CCRL rates it on CPU only), and Deep Blue (no published rating). AlphaZero (Dec 2017–Dec 2018) is an estimate: Stockfish 8's CCRL rating plus its 2018 match result against Stockfish 8 (+155 =839 −6, Science). A star (*) marks an estimate.
